The implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulatory frameworks is being increasingly prioritized by regulatory bodies to address concerns about greenwashing and misallocation of capital. A crucial component of the ESG ecosystem is entities providing ratings based on ESG profiles of companies (ERPs). Such ESG ratings enable investors to make informed and socially conscious investment decisions. Recently, the Securities and Exchange Board of India has introduced a regulatory framework governing ERPs, positioning India as one of the few jurisdictions regulating ERPs.
