The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 (the '2019 Bill') was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 11, 2019 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The 2019 Bill has been formulated largely in line with the provisions of the Draft Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018 (the '2018 Bill'), the report by the Committee of Experts under the chairmanship of Justice B.N. Srikrishna, the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation, 2016 (the 'GDPR') and the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of India: Justice K.S. Puttaswamy v. Union of India.
