ENERGIZING INDIA'S GREEN HYDROGEN REVOLUTION: MNRE'S ALMM AND RLMM EXEMPTION SPARKS MOMENTUM

On May 27, 2024, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy issued office memorandums announcing a significant policy shift in relation to Green Hydrogen regime in India. Renewable energy power plants located in Special Economic Zones or Export Oriented Units that supply power specifically to green hydrogen production units have been exempted from the requirements of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers and the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers. This strategic exemption is aimed at accelerating the growth of green hydrogen production by easing regulatory constraints on these power plants. INDUSLAW's M. Arun Kumar, Ahona Pal and Aayushi Kulshrestha will delve into the reasons behind the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s decision to exempt certain renewable energy power plants from the requirements of Approved List of Models and Manufacturers and the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers. This article will explore the strategic considerations that prompted this move and provide a detailed analysis of the anticipated benefits, including the expected acceleration of green hydrogen production, reduction in regulatory hurdles, and potential positive impacts on India's renewable energy landscape and sustainability goals.
