KARNATAKA HIGH COURT UPHOLDS INCREASE IN EMPLOYEES’ RETIREMENT AGE

The Karnataka High Court recently dismissed an appeal challenging the validity of the Karnataka Government’s order for increasing the retirement age of workmen from 58 to 60 years. The High Court, while dismissing the appeal, has emphasized on India being a welfare state where labour disputes cannot be purely governed by a traditional bi-partite framework.
